Turkmenistan and Beyond


Turkmenistan - Iran - Uzbekistan

Starting from the Turkmen capital of Ashgabat our tour will cross into northern Iran to visit the magnificent ancient city of Mashad. Further you will visit the best of Merv in Turkmenistan and ancient Bukhara and Khiva in Uzbekistan. Crossing the Karakum desert on the way back you will stay overnight in traditional yurts in the oasis of Darvaza in the centre of the Karakum desert.

Visit 5 major historical spots of Central Asia: Ashgabat, Mashad, Merv (Mary), Bukhara, Khiva, and Konye-Urgench. Duration 12 days: 6 days Turkmenistan, 2 days Iran, 4 days Uzbekistan. Accommodation 4 Stars / optional one night overnight stay in traditional yurts, transportation by air-conditioned vehicles.

This tour originates from Ashgabat. The ancient fortress Nissa is located not far from Ashgabat offering the visitor a glimpse into history. The old city was once the capital of the Pathian's, nomads who pushed back Alexander the Great's Greek armies and conquering an empire stretching to the Euphrates. In its prime Nissa was reinforced with 43 towers, sheltering the Royal Palace and several temples.You will be able to visit museums, the Sunday bazaar- "Tolkuchka" and the hippodrome. You will spend a full day in the city of Bukhara- one of the most important and famous cities along the Silk Route. Bukhara has more than 2.500 years of history that is able to be seen to this day. The name came from the Indian Sanskrit word- Bukhara ("monastery"). The rise of Bukhara was in the 10- century-during the Samanid Dynasty, when Bukhara was its capital. You will have dinner and overnight in camps located in the centre of Karakum desert at Darvaza.

Ashgabat -Mashhad -Mary - Bukhara - Urgench - Darvaza - Ashgabat


Day 1 Arrive in Ashgabat by LH. Transfer to the hotel Nissa 4*.
Day 2 Morning visit to the ancient fortress Nissa (III-II c BC).After visit the National Historical Museum with one of the largest collection of exponats. After lunch visit the Turkmen Carpet Museum and Annau Mosque. Dinner and overnight.
Day 3 Morning visit to the Sunday bazaar "Tolkuchka" and the hippodrome. . After lunch drive to Mashhad through Gaudan / Bajigiran border. Accommodation in hotel Laleh 4*. Dinner and overnight.
Day 4 Whole day sightseeing of Mashhad O/N.
Day 5 Morning drive to Sarakhs. Border formalities. Transfer to Mary. Accommodation in hotel Sanjar. Evening visit Museum of Ethnography. Dinner at a private house. O/N.
Day 6 After breakfast, excursion to Old Merv (IV c. BC) - the most wonderful and significant construction of Seldjuk's period. After lunch drive to Bukhara (Uzbekistan) via Turkmenabat (Chardjou) crossing the Amu-Darya river. Arrive in Bukhara and accommodation in hotel New Bukhoro. Dinner and overnight.
Day 7 Full day city tour in Bukhara - One of the most important and famous towns along the Silk Route. Dinner and overnight at hotel New Bukhoro
Day 8 After breakfast drive to Urgench (480 km), accompanied by lunch-boxes. After arriving transfer to hotel Djeyhun 3* for dinner and overnight.
Day 9 Full day excursion in town Khiva (30 km far away). Lunch at private house. Visit bazaar. O/N
Day 10 Morning drive to Dashoguz (Turkmenistan) border. Excursion to Kune-Urgench. After lunch drive to Darvaza - the centre of Karakum desert. Dinner and overnight in camp.
Day 11 Morning continue drive to Ashgabat. Accommodation in hotel Nissa.
Day 12 Transfer to airport for departure.
