Along the Traces of the Great Silk Road
Uzbekistan - Turkmenistan
This 8-Day trip is a heritage-focused tour covering all
the essential spots in Turkmenistan. Amongst others you
will venture far south to the unique cultural heritage
sites of Abiverd, Mekene and Seraks some of which date
back to the 5th century. On your way overland to Bukhara
you will visit the Repetek desert nature reserve.
Visit all main historical spots of Turkmenistan as well
as two main cities in Uzbekistan: Ashgabat,
Abiverd,
Meane Baba
, Seraks, Dandakan, Merv,
Turkmenabat
(Chardjou), Bukhara, Khiva, Tashkent.
For centuries commercial routes stretching from South-East
Asia to the Mediterranean connected the people of East
and West. Named afterwards as the "silk" road / route,
due to the most important commodity which legendary ancestors
accomplished dangerous journeys along the deserts, steppes
and mountainous paths. However, these ways were not only
commercial, they served as a passage for the dissemination
of concepts, technology, arts and religion. Along antique
Parthia and through Turkmen territory some of the first
international trade routes were developed. Here in Turkmenistan
lies the middle point between the East and the West. The
real treasures of the of the Silk Route are its historical
memorials of ancient Merv, the legendary head of the Parthian
state- Nissa, the excavations of Mashhad-Missiriana, the
great constructions of Urgench, and the wonderful mausoleums
of Abiverd, just to name a few. These and other memorials
of this time continue to amaze archeologists, historians
and tourists.
Duration 8 days: 5 days Turkmenistan, 3 days Uzbekistan.
Accommodation 4 Stars, transportation by air-conditioned
vehicles and airplane.

Meet
at the airport. Transfer to the hotel. Ashgabat
City tour, visit of
the History
Museum. Lunch Excursion to the Old Nissa
- the ancient fortress of the second century B.C.
Excursion to Anau
- the ancient settlement of the first farmers and
15th century mosque. |

2 |
Transfer
to Mary (350 km). Visit: Abiverd- the remains of
an ancient city of the 9-12 Century, Meane
Baba Mausoleum (13th century, the Mausoleum
of Abu-Said ibn Khaira), Seraks- border point of
the Great Silk Route between Nishapur and Merv (11th
century), Dandanakan- the ancient city Dash-Rabat
(the remains of the fortress walls with watch towers-5-12
centuries. In the 13th was destroyed by the hordes
of Chingiz Khan.) Dinner. Overnight at the hotel.

Excursion
to ancient Merv
- walk among the group of cities Erk-Kala, the small
Kiz-Kala, the larger Kiz-Kala, and the Mausoleum
of Sultan Sanjar. Excursion to the History Museum
in Mary. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.

Transfer
to Turkmenabat
(Chardjou) (250 km). Visit of the Repetek
nature reserve. City tour of Amul. Dinner and overnight
at the hotel. |

5 |
Transfer
to Bukhara. Accommodation at the hotel "New Bukhara".
Sightseeing tour: the Citadel Ark, Bolo-Khaus Mosque
and Samands Mausoleum. After lunch visit the complex
necropolis Bogouddin and possibly take part in a
religious ceremony. Dinner and overnight at the
hotel. |

Departure
for Urgench by bus. Sightseeing tour. Visit Hiva
and the Kunya-Ark fortress. Flight to Tashkent.
Transfer to hotel "Shodlik Palace". Dinner and overnight.

breakfast, city tour of Tashkent. Visit the architectural
Ensemble of Zangi-Ota Anbar-bibi Medrese Mausoleum.
